Animals have a slight loss of equilibrium and although they demonstrate awareness, no real attempt is made to avoid obstacles.
Handleable
In the initial phase animals have lost equilibrium but retain some swimming motion. When handled no struggling is apparent although animals will display some awareness if removed from the water. In the later phase animals have lost equilibrium, swimming motions may be observed but there is no reaction to being handled or removed from the water.
Deep Anaesthesia
Gill ventilation is erratic or absent and the cough reflex is suppressed.
